Plead with God the Merit and Righteousness of Jesus Christ

Petition 3.3 | NIV

The merit and righteousness of my Lord Jesus Christ, which I rely upon as my main plea in my petition for the pardon of sin.

I know that as you are gracious and merciful, so you are the righteous God who loves justice, Psalm 11:7(NIV) and does not leave the guilty unpunished. Exodus 34:7(NIV) I cannot say, “Be patient with me, and I will pay back everything,” Matthew 18:26(NIV) for I have become like one who is unclean, and all my righteous acts are like filthy rags. Isaiah 64:6(NIV) But Jesus Christ has become for me righteousness from God: 1 Corinthians 1:30(NIV) God made him who had no sin to be sin for me, so that in him I might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21(NIV)

I have sinned, but I have one who speaks to the Father in my defense – Jesus Christ, the Righteous One, who is the atoning sacrifice for my sins, and not only for mine but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:1-2(NIV)

It is God who justifies, who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died – more than that, who was raised to life – is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for me; Romans 8:33-34(NIV) and his blood speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. Hebrews 12:24(NIV)

I desire to consider everything loss for the sake of Christ, and rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, but that which is through faith in Christ. Philippians 3:7-9(NIV)

This is the name by which I, with your people, will call him: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. Jeremiah 23:6(NIV) In him, Lord, I believe; help me overcome my unbelief! Mark 9:24(NIV)

Lord, remember David and all the hardships he endured; Psalm 132:1(NIV) the Son of David, remember all his sacrifices and accept his burnt offerings; Psalm 20:3(NIV) and do not reject your Anointed One, 2 Chronicles 6:42(NIV) who by his own blood has entered heaven itself, now to appear for me in God’s presence. Hebrews 9:24(NIV)

Have you not yourself presented your Son, Christ Jesus, as a sacrifice of atonement for sin, through faith in his blood, to demonstrate your justice for the remission of sins, to demonstrate your justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus? Romans 3:25-26(NIV) And I now receive reconciliation. Romans 5:11(NIV)

I desire to count everything as loss for the sake of Christ, and as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having any righteousness of my own, but that which comes through faith in Christ. Philippians 3:7-9(ESV)

Plead with God His Goodness and Readiness to Forgive Sin

Petition 3.2 | NIV

For the encouraging of my faith and the exciting of my fervency in this petition for the pardon of sin, I may plead with God:

The infinite goodness of his nature, his readiness to forgive sin, and his glorying in it.

You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you. Psalm 86:5(NIV) You are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Psalm 86:15(NIV)

You are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love; Nehemiah 9:17(NIV) you do not always accuse, nor will you harbor your anger forever. Psalm 103:9(NIV)

You, even you, are he who blots out my transgressions, for your own sake, and remembers my sins no more. I am here to review the past for you, to argue the matter together, and to state the case for my innocence in Christ, Isaiah 43:25-26(NIV) who has taken my judgment.

And now, I plead with you, let the Lord’s strength be displayed, just as you have declared: “The LORD is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion.” In accordance with your great love, forgive my sin and the sin of your people, just as you have pardoned us even until now. Numbers 14:17-19(NIV)

For who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of your inheritance? Who does not stay angry forever but delights to show mercy? O that you would have compassion on us and tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea. Micah 7:18-19(NIV)

The infinite goodness of His nature, His readiness to forgive sin, and His glorying in it.

You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon You. Psalm 86:5(NASB) You are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in covenant love and truth. Psalm 86:15(NASB)

You are a God of forgiveness, gracious and compassionate, Nehemiah 9:17(NASB) who does not always strive with me nor keep His anger forever. Psalm 103:9(NASB)

You, even You, are the one who wipes out my transgressions for Your own sake, and will not remember my sins, which I am here to put You in remembrance of and to declare, in order to plead for mercy in Christ. Isaiah 43:25-26(KJV)

And now, I pray, let the power of the Lord be great, just as You have declared, saying, “The LORD is slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression.” Pardon, I pray, my iniquity and the iniquity of Your people, according to the greatness of Your lovingkindness, just as You have forgiven us even until now. Numbers 14:17-19(NASB)

For who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity and passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of Your possession? You do not retain Your anger forever, because You delight in unchanging love. O that You would have compassion on me and tread my iniquities under foot and cast all my sins into the depths of the sea. Micah 7:18-19(NASB)

Petition 3.2 | KJV

For the encouraging of my faith and the exciting of my fervency in this petition for the pardon of sin, I may plead with God,

The infinite goodness of his nature, his readiness to forgive sin, and his glorying in it.

Thou, Lord, art good and ready to forgive and rich in mercy to all them that call upon thee. Psalm 86:5(KJV) Thou art a God full of compassion and gracious, long-suffering and plenteous in mercy and truth. Psalm 86:15(KJV)

Thou art a God of pardon, merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, Nehemiah 9:17(KJV) that dost not always chide nor keep thine anger for ever. Psalm 103:9(KJV)

Thou, even thou, art he that blottest out my transgressions for thine own sake, and wilt not remember my sins, which I am here to put thee in remembrance of, to plead with thee, and to declare, that I may be justified. Isaiah 43:25-26(KJV)

And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying, The Lord is long-suffering and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression. Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of thy people according unto the greatness of thy mercy: and as thou hast forgiven even until now. Numbers 14:17-19(KJV)

For who is a God like unto thee, that pardonest iniquity and passest by the transgression of the remnant of thine heritage? Who retainest not thine anger for ever, because thou delightest in mercy? O that thou wouldest have compassion upon me and subdue my iniquities and cast all my sins into the depths of the sea. Micah 7:18-19(KJV)

Earnestly Pray for the Forgiveness of your Sins

Petition 3.1 | NIV

I must earnestly pray for the pardon and forgiveness of all my sins.

Lord, I come to you, as the poor tax collector who stood at a distance and would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast; and I pray his prayer, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ Luke 18:13(NIV) The God of infinite mercy be merciful to me.

O wash away all my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin; for I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Psalm 51:2-3(NIV) O cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow; Psalm 51:7(NIV) hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Psalm 51:9(NIV)

Forgive my wickedness and remember my sins no more. Hebrews 8:12(NIV) O cancel all my great debt. Matthew 18:32(NIV)

Let me be justified freely by your grace, through the redemption that came by Jesus, Romans 3:24(NIV) from everything which I could not be justified from by the law of Moses. Acts 13:39(NIV)

O let not my sin be my downfall; Ezekiel 18:30(NIV) but let the LORD take away my sin, that I may not die, 2 Samuel 12:13(NIV) not die eternally; that I may not be hurt by the second death. Revelation 2:11(NIV)

Sweep away my offenses like a cloud, my sins like the morning mist; I return to you, for you have redeemed me. Isaiah 44:22(NIV)

Do not bring your servant into judgment, O Lord, for no one living is righteous before you. Psalm 143:2(NIV)

Forgive all my sins and receive me graciously; heal my waywardness and love me freely; let your anger be turned away from me, for in you the fatherless find compassion. Hosea 14:2-4(NIV)

Though my sins have been like scarlet, let them be as white as snow; and though they have been red as crimson, let them be like wool; that being willing and obedient, I may eat the best from the land. Isaiah 1:18-19(NIV)

I will say to God, “Do not condemn me, Job 10:2(NIV) but spare me from going down to the pit, for you have found the ransom for me.”
