Pray for the Grace of Self-Denial and Humility

Petition 3.22 | NIV

I must pray for the grace of self-denial.

Lord, give me grace to deny myself, to take up my cross daily, and to follow Christ; Matthew 16:24(NIV) to beat my body and make it my slave. 1 Corinthians 9:27(NIV)

Lord, keep me from being a lover of myself, 2 Timothy 3:2(NIV) from being wise in my own eyes and leaning on my own understanding. Proverbs 3:5-7(NIV)

Lord, grant that I may not seek only my own good, but also the good of others. 1 Corinthians 10:24(NIV)

And grant that I may not live to myself alone or die to myself alone, but whether I live or die, I may belong to the Lord, and live and die to him. Romans 14:7-8(NIV)

I must pray for humility and meekness.

Lord, give me to learn from Christ to be gentle and humble in heart, that I may find rest for my soul; Matthew 11:29(NIV) and that herein my attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus. Philippians 2:5(NIV)

Lord, keep pride from me, Job 33:17(NIV) and clothe me with humility; 1 Peter 5:5(NIV) and put upon me the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in your sight. 1 Peter 3:4-5(NIV)

Lord, give me grace to live a life worthy of the calling I have received, being completely humble, gentle, and patient, as I bear with others in love. Ephesians 4:1-2(NIV)

Let anger never reside in my lap, Ecclesiastes 7:9(NIV) nor the sun ever go down while I am still angry; Ephesians 4:26(NIV) but enable me to show true humility toward all men, because I myself also was at one time foolish and disobedient. Titus 3:2-3(NIV)

Let me be clothed as becomes one of God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, Colossians 3:12(NIV) that being merciful, just as my Father in heaven is merciful, Luke 6:36(NIV) I may be perfect as he is perfect. Matthew 5:48(NIV)

Pray for the Fear of God and for the Love of God to be Rooted in you

Petition 3.20 | NIV

I must pray for the fear of God.

Lord, work in me that fear of you, which is the beginning of wisdom, Psalm 111:10(NIV) which teaches a man wisdom, Proverbs 15:33(NIV) and which is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death. Proverbs 14:27(NIV)

Give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name; Psalm 86:11(NIV) that I may keep your commandments, which is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13(NIV)

O inspire me to fear you, so that I may never turn away from you. Jeremiah 32:40(NIV) Let me be devoted to your fear; Psalm 119:38(KJV) and let me always be zealous for the fear of the LORD. Proverbs 23:17(NIV)

I must pray that the love of God and Christ may be rooted in me and, in order to that end, that the love of the world may be rooted out of me.

Give me grace, I beg you, to love you, the Lord my God, with all my heart and soul and mind and strength, Mark 12:30(NIV) which is the first and greatest commandment; Matthew 22:37-38(NIV) to set my love upon you; Psalm 91:14(NIV) and to delight myself always in you; and therein I shall have the desires of my heart. Psalm 37:4(NIV)

Circumcise my heart to love you, the Lord my God, with all my heart and with all my soul, that I may live. Deuteronomy 30:6(NIV)

O that God may pour out his love into my heart by the Holy Spirit! Romans 5:5(NIV)

O that Jesus Christ may be very precious to me, as he is to all who believe; 1 Peter 2:7(NIV) that he may be in my account outstanding among ten thousand, Song of Solomon 5:10(NIV) and altogether lovely; and that he may be my lover and my friend: Song of Solomon 5:16(NIV) That though I have not seen him, yet I may love him; and even though I do not see him now, I may believe in him and be filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy. 1 Peter 1:89NIV)

Let Christ’s love for me constrain me to live no longer for myself, but for him who died for me and was raised again. 2 Corinthians 5:14-15(NIV)

And, Lord, grant that I may not love the world or anything in the world, because if anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him; 1 John 2:15(NIV) grant that I may set my mind on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3:2(NIV)
