Pray for the Conversion of Non-Christians who are Hostile to Christianity

Intercession 5.4 | ESV

For the conviction and conversion of atheists, deists, and infidels, and of all who are out of the way of truth, and of profane scoffers and those who disgrace Christianity by their vicious and immoral lives.

O teach transgressors your ways, and let sinners return to you. Psalm 51:13(ESV)

O give them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, 2 Timothy 2:25(ESV) the truth as it is in Jesus, Ephesians 4:21(ESV) the truth which accords with godliness; Titus 1:1(ESV) that they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil. 2 Timothy 2:26(ESV)

Let those who are straying like sheep return to Jesus Christ, the Shepherd and Overseer of his people’s souls. 1 Peter 2:25(ESV)

Show those fools their folly and misery who have said in their hearts, “There is no God,” and who are corrupt and do abominable deeds. Psalm 14:1(ESV)

Lord, maintain the honor of the Scriptures, the teaching and the testimony, and convince those who speak not according to that word, that it is because they have no dawn. Isaiah 8:20(ESV) You have exalted above all things your name and your word; Psalm 138:2(ESV) magnify the law, magnify the gospel, and make both glorious. Isaiah 42:21(ESV)

Let those who will not be won by the word, be won by the conduct of Christians, 1 Peter 3:1(ESV) which I beg may be such in everything that those who do not believe may be convicted by all and called to account by all, may be brought to worship God and to declare that God is really among them. 1 Corinthians 14:24-25(ESV)

Pray for the Universal Church

Intercession 5.3 | ESV

For the universal church, wherever dispersed, and for all the interests of it.

My heart’s desire and prayer to God for the gospel-Israel is that it may be saved. Romans 10:1(ESV)

Do good to Zion in your good pleasure; build up the walls of Jerusalem. Psalm 51:18(ESV) Peace be within her walls and security within her towers. For my brothers and companions’ sake, I will now say, “Peace be within her.” Psalm 122:7-8(ESV)

O that I may see the prosperity of the gospel-Jerusalem all the days of my life and peace upon Israel. Psalm 128:5-6(ESV) And that, thus, I may have reason to answer the messengers of the nations, saying, “The LORD has founded Zion, and in her the afflicted of his people find refuge.” Isaiah 14:32(ESV)

Save your people, O Lord, and bless your heritage; be their shepherd and carry them forever. Psalm 28:9(ESV) Give strength to your people, and bless your people with peace; Psalm 29:11(ESV) cover them with favor as with a shield. Psalm 5:12(ESV)

Grace be with all who love the Lord Jesus Christ with love incorruptible; Ephesians 6:24(ESV) for you know those who are yours, and give to all who name the name of Christ to depart from iniquity. 2 Timothy 2:19(ESV)

I pray for all who believe in Christ, that they may all be one; John 17:20-21(ESV) and since there is one body and one Spirit and one hope that belongs to our call, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of all, Ephesians 4:4-6(ESV) give to all Christians to be of one heart and one way. Jeremiah 32:39(ESV)

Let the word of the Lord in all places speed ahead, and let it be honored. 2 Thessalonians 3:1(ESV)

Pray for Jewish Conversions, Churches Threatened by Islam, and Churches on the Mission Field

Intercession 5.2 | ESV

For the conversion of the Jews.

Let the branches which are broken off not continue in their unbelief, Romans 11:17(ESV) but be grafted in again into their own olive tree. And though a partial hardening has come upon Israel, yet let the fullness of the Gentiles come in, and let all Israel be saved. Romans 11:23-26(ESV)

Let them be made to look on him whom they have pierced; Zechariah 12:10(ESV) and, that they turn to the Lord, let the veil which lies over their hearts be removed. 2 Corinthians 3:15-16(ESV)

For all churches that are groaning under the yoke of Islamic tyranny.

Let the churches of Asia, that were golden lampstands, Revelation 1:11-12(ESV) which the Lord Jesus delighted to walk among, be made so again. Revelation 2:1(ESV)

Restore to them their liberties as at the first, and their privileges as at the beginning; smelt away their dross, and remove all their alloy, Isaiah 1:25-26(ESV) and restore their fortunes, O LORD, like streams in the Negeb! Psalm 126:4(ESV)

For the churches on the mission field.

Be the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas; Psalm 65:5(ESV) and let them have the blessing which came upon the head of Joseph and upon the brow of him who was set apart from his brothers, even to the bounties of the everlasting hills. Genesis 49:26(ESV)

Create peace to the far, as well as to the near. Isaiah 57:19(ESV)

And let those that draw from the abundance of the seas and the hidden treasures of the sand, call the people to the mountain, that they may offer right sacrifices. Deuteronomy 33:19(ESV)

Pray for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Lands

Intercession 5.1 | ESV

For the propagation of the gospel in foreign parts and the enlargement of the church by the bringing in of many to it.

O let the gospel be proclaimed to the whole creation; Mark 16:15(ESV) for how are men to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? Romans 10:14-15(ESV) And who shall send out laborers but the Lord of the harvest? Matthew 9:38(ESV)

Let the people dwelling in darkness see a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them let a light dawn. Matthew 4:16(ESV)

Add to your church day by day those who are being saved; Acts 2:47(ESV) enlarge the place of its tent, lengthen its cords, and strengthen its stakes. Isaiah 54:2(ESV)

Bring your offspring from the east and gather them from the west; say to the north, “Give up,” and to the south, “Do not withhold; bring your sons from afar and your daughters from the end of the earth.” Isaiah 43:5-6(ESV) Let them come with acceptance to your altar, and beautify your beautiful house; let them fly like a cloud, and like doves to their windows. Isaiah 60:7-8(ESV)

In every place let incense be offered to your name, and pure offerings; and from the rising of the sun to its setting, let your name be great among the nations, Malachi 1:11(ESV) and let the offering of the Gentiles be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:16(ESV)

O let the earth be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. Isaiah 11:9(ESV)

Introduction and Exhortation to Pray for the Whole Lost World of Mankind

Intercession 5.0 | ESV

The Lord Jesus has taught us to pray, not only with, but for others; and the apostle has appointed us to make supplication for all the saints, Ephesians 6:18(ESV) and many of his prayers in his epistles are for his friends. And we must not think that when we are in this part of prayer, we may let fall our fervency and be more indifferent because we ourselves are not immediately concerned in it; but rather, let a holy fire of love, both to God and man, here make our devotion yet more warm and lively.

We must pray for the whole world of mankind, the lost world; and thus, we must honor everyone, 1 Peter 2:17(ESV) and, according to our capacity, do good to everyone. Galatians 6:10(ESV)

I pray, as I am taught, for all people, believing that this is good and pleasing in the sight of God my Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth and of Jesus Christ, 1 Timothy 2:3-4(ESV) who gave himself as a ransom for all. 1 Timothy 2:6(ESV)

O look with compassion upon the world that lies in the power of the evil one, 1 John 5:19(ESV) and let the ruler of this world be cast out, John 12:31(ESV) who has blinded their minds. 2 Corinthians 4:4(ESV)

O let your way be known on earth, Psalm 67:2(ESV) that barbarous nations may be civilized, and those who live without God in the world may be brought to the service of the living God; Ephesians 2:12(ESV) and thus, let your saving power be known among all nations. Let the peoples praise you, O God; yes, let all the peoples praise you: O let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon earth. Psalm 67:2-4(ESV)

O let your salvation and your righteousness be revealed in the sight of the nations, and let all the ends of the earth see the salvation of God. Psalm 98:2-3(ESV)

O make the nations your Son’s heritage, and the ends of the earth his possession; Psalm 2:8(ESV) for you have said, “It is too light a thing for him to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel”; but you will make him as a light for the nations. Isaiah 49:6(ESV)

Let all the kingdoms of the world become the kingdom of the Lord and of his Christ. Revelation 11:15(ESV)

Thank God for the Performance of His Promises

Thanksgiving 4.41 | ESV

For the performance of God’s promises.

You have dealt well with your servants, O LORD, according to your word, Psalm 119:65(ESV) and you have been ever mindful of your covenant, the word that you commanded, for a thousand generations. Psalm 105:8(ESV)

Not one word has failed of all your good promise, 1 Kings 8:56(ESV) which you have promised to David your servant and to Israel your people. 1 Kings 8:66(ESV)

And now, what shall we render to the LORD for all his benefits to us? Psalm 116:12(ESV) Let our souls return to him and repose in him as their rest, for he has dealt bountifully with us: Psalm 116:7(ESV) We will lift up the cup of our salvation and call upon the name of the LORD. Psalm 116:13(ESV) For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 100:5(ESV)

We will bless the LORD at all times; yes, his praise shall continually be in our mouths; Psalm 34:1(ESV) we will sing to the LORD as long as we live; Psalm 104:33(ESV) and we hope to be shortly with those blessed ones who dwell in his house above and are still praising him and who day and night never cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty.” Revelation 4:8(ESV)

Thank God for Support Under your Afflictions

Thanksgiving 4.40 | ESV

For support under our afflictions, and spiritual benefit and advantage by them.

You have comforted me in all my affliction, 2 Corinthians 1:4(ESV) have seen my affliction and known the distress of my soul; Psalm 31:7(ESV) you have wondrously shown your steadfast love to me when I was in a besieged city. Psalm 31:21(ESV)

When afflictions have abounded, comforts have much more abounded. 2 Corinthians 1:5(ESV)

Though for the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, yet later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness and proves to be for my good, that I might share your holiness. Hebrews 12:10-11(ESV)

I have had reason to say that it was good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes; Psalm 119:71(ESV) for before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word. Psalm 119:67(ESV)

It has been but for a little while, and when it was necessary, that I was grieved by various trials; and I beg that all the trials of my faith may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom, though I have not seen, I love; though I do not now see him, yet I believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, and am longing to receive the outcome of my faith, the salvation of my soul. 1 Peter 1:6-9(ESV)

Thank God for Gracious Answers to your Prayers

Thanksgiving 4.39 | ESV

For gracious answers to our prayers.

I have reason to love you, O LORD, because you have heard the voice of my pleas for mercy, Psalm 130:2(ESV) and because you have inclined your ear to me; I will therefore call upon you as long as I live. Psalm 116:1-2(ESV)

Out of the depths I have called to you, O LORD, Psalm 130:1(ESV) and you have heard my vows and given me the heritage of those who fear your name. Psalm 61:5(ESV)

Indeed, before I have called, you have answered; and while I have been yet speaking, you have heard, Isaiah 65:24(ESV) and have said, “Here I am,” Isaiah 58:9(ESV) and have been near to me whenever I call upon you. Deuteronomy 4:7(ESV)

Lord, you have heard the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart, and incline your ear to hear. Psalm 10:17(ESV)

Blessed be God, who has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me; Psalm 66:20(ESV) for I have prayed and gone away, and my face has been no longer sad. 1 Samuel 1:18(ESV)

Thank God for Sweet Communion with Him in Holy Ordinances

Thanksgiving 4.38 | ESV

For sweet communion with God in holy ordinances, and the communications of his favor.

I have feasted on the abundance of your house, and you have given me drink from the river of your delights: for with you is the fountain of life; in your light do I see light. Psalm 36:8-9(ESV)

You have brought me to your holy mountain, and made me joyful in your house of prayer; Isaiah 56:7(ESV) and I have found for me it is good to be near God. Psalm 73:28(ESV)

I have reason to say that a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere, and that it is better to be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness; for the LORD God is a sun and shield; he bestows favor and honor, and no good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly: O LORD of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you! Psalm 84:10-12(ESV)

I have sat down under your shadow with delight, and your fruit has been sweet to my taste; you have brought me to the banqueting house, and your banner over me has been love. Song of Solomon 2:3-4(ESV)

Thank God for the Powerful Influences of Divine Grace

Thanksgiving 4.37 | ESV

For the powerful influences of divine grace to sanctify and preserve us, to prevent our falling into sin, and to strengthen us in doing our duty.

You have not quenched the smoldering wick, nor broken the bruised reed, Matthew 12:20(ESV) nor despised the day of small things; Zechariah 4:10(ESV) but having had the help of God, I continue up to this time. Acts 26:22(ESV)

On the day I called, you answered me; and my strength of soul you increased. Psalm 138:3(ESV)

I have been continually with you, you have held my right hand, Psalm 73:23(ESV) when my feet had almost stumbled and my steps had nearly slipped. Psalm 73:2(ESV)

I have reason never to forget your precepts, for by them you have given me life; and if your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction many a time; Psalm 119:92-93(ESV) for your statutes have been my songs in the house of my sojourning. Psalm 119:54(ESV)

If the Lord had not been my help, my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence: But when I thought, “My foot slips,” your steadfast love, O LORD, held me up; and when the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul. Psalm 94:17-19(ESV)
