Pray for Grace to Govern your Tongue

Petition 3.26 | KJV

I must pray for grace to enable me both to govern my tongue well and to use it well.

Lord, enable me to take heed to my ways, that I offend not with my tongue, and to keep my mouth as it were with a bridle, Psalm 39:1(KJV) that it may not be hasty to utter any thing. Ecclesiastes 5:2(KJV)

Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, keep the door of my lips, Psalm 141:3(KJV) that I may not offend in word. James 3:2(KJV)

Let my speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, Colossians 4:6(KJV) and enable me always, out of the good treasure of my heart, to bring forth good things. Matthew 12:35(KJV) Let my mouth speak wisdom, and my tongue talk judgment; Psalm 37:30(KJV) and let not thy words depart out of my mouth, or any of your people’s mouth, nor out of the mouth of our seed, or our seed’s seed, from henceforth and for ever. Isaiah 59:21(KJV)

Enable me always to open my mouth with wisdom, and let the law of kindness be in my tongue. Proverbs 31:26(KJV) Give me to know what is acceptable, Proverbs 10:32(KJV) that my tongue may be as choice silver, and my lips may feed many. Proverbs 10:20-21(KJV)

Pray for Grace to Preserve you from Sin

Petition 3.25 | KJV

I must pray for grace to preserve me from sin and all appearances of it and approaches towards it.

Now I pray to God that I may do no evil, 2 Corinthians 13:7(KJV) but may be blameless and harmless, as a child of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation. Philippians 2:15(KJV)

Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way. Psalm 119:37(KJV) Remove from me the way of lying, and grant me thy law graciously. Psalm 119:29(KJV)

Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with them that work iniquity; and let me not eat of their dainties. Psalm 141:4(KJV)

O cleanse me from my secret faults; keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins: Let not them have dominion over me, but let me be upright and innocent from the great transgressions; Psalm 19:12-13(KJV) and grant that hereby I may prove myself upright before thee, by keeping myself from my own iniquity. Psalm 18:23(KJV)

Let thy word be hid in my heart, that I may not sin against thee; Psalm 119:11(KJV) and thy grace be at all times sufficient for me, 2 Corinthians 12:9(KJV) ready to me, and mighty in me; and never give me up to my own heart’s lust, to walk in my own counsel. Jeremiah 7:24(KJV)

Enable me to walk circumspectly, not as a fool but as wise, Ephesians 5:15(KJV) so circumspectly, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion to blaspheme that worthy name by which I am called; James 2:7(KJV) and with well-doing may I put to silence the ignorance of foolish men, 1 Peter 2:15(KJV) and may I adorn the doctrine of God my Saviour in all things. Titus 2:10(KJV)

Let patience work experience in me, and experience, hope, such a hope as maketh not ashamed. Romans 5:4-5(KJV) Through patience and comfort of the Scriptures, let me have hope, Romans 15:4(KJV) and be saved by hope. Romans 8:24(KJV)

Let the God of Jacob be my help, and my hope always be in the Lord my God. Psalm 146:5(KJV)

Let me be begotten again to a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 1 Peter 1:3(KJV) and let that hope be to me as an anchor of the soul, sure and steadfast, entering into that within the veil, whither the Forerunner is for me entered. Hebrews 6:19-20(KJV)

Let me have Christ in me the hope of glory, Colossians 1:27(KJV) and never be moved away from that hope of the gospel; Colossians 1:23(KJV) but enable me to give diligence unto the full assurance of hope unto the end. Hebrews 6:11(KJV)

Pray for the Graces of Contentment and Patience

Petition 3.23 | KJV

I must pray for the graces of contentment and patience, and a holy indifferency to all the things of sense and time.

Lord, teach me whatsoever state I am in therewith to be content; let me know how to be abased and how to abound; every where and in all things, let me be instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. Philippians 4:11-12(KJV) And let godliness with contentment be great gain to me, 1 Timothy 6:6(KJV) and a little with the fear of the Lord and quietness, be better than a great treasure and trouble therewith. Proverbs 15:16(KJV)

Lord, grant that my conversation may be without covetousness, and I may always be content with such things as I have, Hebrews 13:5(KJV) still saying, The will of the Lord be done. Acts 21:14(KJV)

Enable me in my patience to possess my own soul; Luke 21:19(KJV) and let patience always have its perfect work, that I may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. James 1:4(KJV)

Lord, give me grace to weep as though I wept not, and to rejoice as though I rejoiced not, and to possess as though I possessed not, and to use the world as not abusing it, because the time is short, and the fashion of this world passeth away. 1 Corinthians 7:29-31(KJV)

Lord, give me grace to deny myself, to take up my cross daily, and to follow Christ, Matthew 16:24(KJV) to keep under the body and bring it into subjection. 1 Corinthians 9:27(KJV)

Lord, keep me from being a lover of my own self, 2 Timothy 3:2(KJV) from being wise in my own conceit and leaning to my own understanding. Proverbs 3:5(KJV)

Lord, give me to seek not my own only, but my brother’s welfare. 1 Corinthians 10:24(KJV)

I must pray for humility and meekness.

Lord, give me to learn of Christ to be meek and lowly in heart, that I may find rest to my soul; Matthew 11:29(KJV) and that herein the same mind may be in me that was also in Christ Jesus. Philippians 2:5(KJV)

Lord, hide pride from me, Job 33:17(KJV) and clothe me with humility; 1 Peter 5:5(KJV) and put upon me the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which in thy sight is of great price. 1 Peter 3:4-5(KJV)

Lord, give me grace to walk worthy of the vocation wherewith I am called, with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing others in love. Ephesians 4:1-2(KJV)

Let anger never rest in my bosom, Ecclesiastes 7:9(KJV) nor the sun ever go down upon my wrath; Ephesians 4:26(KJV) but enable me to show all meekness towards all men, because I myself also was sometimes foolish and disobedient. Titus 3:2-3(KJV)

Let me be clothed as becomes an elect child of God, holy and beloved, with bowels of mercy, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, and long-suffering, Colossians 3:12(KJV) that being merciful, as my Father which is in heaven is merciful, Luke 6:36(KJV) I may be perfect as he is perfect. Matthew 5:48(KJV)

I must pray that my conscience may be always tender and that I may live a life of repentance.

Lord, take away the stony heart out of my flesh and give me a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 11:19(KJV)

I must pray to God to work in me charity and brotherly love.

Lord, give me to love my neighbour as myself with that love which is the fulfilling of the law; Romans 13:9-10(KJV) to love others with a pure heart fervently, 1 Peter 1:22(KJV) that hereby all men may know that I am Christ’s disciple. John 13:35(KJV)

And as your people are taught of God to love one another, give me to abound therein more and more; 1 Thessalonians 4:9-10(KJV) and as I have an opportunity, to do good to all men; Galatians 6:10(KJV) and as much as in me lies, to live peaceably with all men, Romans 12:18(KJV) always following after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith I may edify others. Romans 14:19(KJV)

Lord, make me able to love my enemies, to bless them that curse me, and to pray for them that despitefully use me, and to do good to them that hate me; Matthew 5:44(KJV) forbearing others and forgiving others in love, as Christ forgave me. Colossians 3:13(KJV)

Lord, work in me that fear of thee, which is the beginning of wisdom, Psalm 111:10(KJV) which is the instruction of wisdom, Proverbs 15:33(KJV) and which is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. Proverbs 14:27(KJV)

Unite my heart to fear thy name, Psalm 86:11(KJV) that I may keep thy commandments, which is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13(KJV)

O that the love of God may be shed abroad in my heart by the Holy Ghost. Romans 5:5(KJV)

O that Jesus Christ may be very precious to me, as he is to all that believe; 1 Peter 2:7(KJV) that he may be in my account the chiefest of ten thousand and altogether lovely; Song of Solomon 5:10(KJV) and that he may be my beloved and my friend: Song of Solomon 5:16(KJV) That though I have not seen him, yet I may love him; and though I now see him not, yet believing, I may rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory. 1 Peter 1:8(KJV)

Let the love of Christ to me constrain me to live, not to myself, but to him that died for me and rose again. 2 Corinthians 5:14-15(KJV)

And, Lord, grant that I may not love the world nor the things that are in the world, because if any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him; 1 John 2:15(KJV) that I may set my affections on things above, and not on things that are on the earth. Colossians 3:2(KJV)

I beseech thee, work in me that faith which is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen, Hebrews 11:1(KJV) by which I may look above the things that are seen, that are temporal, and may look at the things that are not seen, that are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18(KJV)
