Pray for Grace to Fit you for Heaven

Petition 3.38 | KJV

I must pray for grace to fit me for heaven, and that I may at length be put in possession of eternal life.

Lord, make me meet to partake of the inheritance of the saints in light; Colossians 1:12(KJV) let God himself work me to the self-same thing, and give me the earnest of the Spirit in my heart. 2 Corinthians 5:5(KJV)

O that I may now have my conversation in heaven, that I may from thence with comfort look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus, who shall change my vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body. Philippians 3:20-21(KJV)

O that I may set my affections on things that are above, and that my life may be hid with Christ in God, that when Christ, who is my life, shall appear, I also may appear with him in glory; Colossians 3:2-4(KJV) that when he shall appear, I may be like him, may see him as he is, 1 John 3:2(KJV) may behold his face in righteousness, and when I awake, may be satisfied with his likeness. Psalm 17:15(KJV)

When I fail, let me be received into everlasting habitations, Luke 16:9(KJV) in the city that hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God; Hebrews 11:10(KJV) that I may be together for ever with the Lord, 1 Thessalonians 4:17(KJV) to see as I am seen and know as I am known; 1 Corinthians 13:12(KJV) and, in the meantime, help me to comfort myself and others with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:18(KJV) And having this hope in me, to purify myself, even as Christ is pure. 1 John 3:3(KJV)

And now, my Lord Jesus Christ himself and God, even my Father, who hath loved me and hath given me everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, comfort my heart and stablish me in every good word and work. 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17(KJV)

Pray for the Grace Needed to Die Well

Petition 3.37 | KJV

I must pray for grace to deliver me from death* and to carry me well through my dying moments.

Lord, make me to know my end and the measure of my days, what it is, that I may know and consider how frail I am: And that my days are as a handbreadth, and that every man at his best state is altogether vanity; Psalm 39:4-5(KJV) and my days upon earth are as a shadow, and there is no abiding. 1 Chronicles 29:15(KJV)

Lord, teach me so to number my days, that I may apply my heart unto wisdom, Psalm 90:12(KJV) and make me to consider my latter end. Deuteronomy 32:29(KJV)

Lord, make me always ready, with my loins girded about and my light burning, Luke 12:35(KJV) because the Son of man comes in an hour that I think not. Luke 12:40(KJV)

Keep me all the days of my appointed time, waiting till my change comes; and then shalt thou call, and I will answer. Job 14:14-15(KJV)

Bring me to my grave as a shock of corn in its season; Job 5:26(KJV) satisfy me with life, whether it be longer or shorter, and show me thy salvation. Psalm 91:16(KJV)

And when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, be thou with me, that I may fear no evil; let thy rod and thy staff comfort me. Psalm 23:4(KJV)

Let goodness and mercy follow me all the days of my life, and let me dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Psalm 23:6(KJV) Mercy and truth be with me. 2 Samuel 15:20(KJV)

Redeem my soul from the power of the grave, and receive me; Psalm 49:15(KJV) guide me by thy counsel, and afterward receive me into glory. Psalm 73:24(KJV)

* We must all die (save those alive when the Lord comes), so the author directs us to ask for deliverance not from the inevitable fact of death, but from the fear and power of death. Editor.

Pray for Preserving Grace

Petition 3.36 | KJV

I must pray for the effectual support and comfort under all the crosses and afflictions that I meet with in this world.

Lord, deliver me from every evil work and preserve me to thy heavenly kingdom, 2 Timothy 4:18(KJV) being kept from falling, that I may be presented faultless at the coming of thy glory, with exceeding joy. Jude 1:24(KJV)

Lord, make me to increase and abound in love, towards your people and towards all men, that my heart may be established unblameable in holiness before God, even my Father, at the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints. 1 Thessalonians 3:12-13(KJV)

If Satan desires to have me that he may sift me as wheat, yet let Christ’s intercession prevail for me, that my faith fail not. Luke 22:31-32(KJV)

Till I am taken out of the world, let me be kept from the evil, John 17:15(KJV) and sanctified through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 17:17(KJV)

Build me up, I pray thee, in my most holy faith, and keep me in the love of God, looking for the mercy of my Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Jude 1:20-21(KJV)

Grant that I may continue to call upon thee as long as I live, Psalm 116:2(KJV) and till I die may I never remove my integrity from me; and that my righteousness I may hold fast, and never let it go, and my heart may not reproach me so long as I live. Job 27:5-6(KJV)

Pray for the Support and Comfort you Need in your Afflictions

Petition 3.35 | KJV

I must pray for the effectual support and comfort under all the crosses and afflictions that I meet with in this world.

I know that I am born to trouble as the sparks fly upward; Job 5:7(KJV) but in six troubles be thou pleased to deliver me, and in seven let no evil touch me. Job 5:19(KJV)

Let the eternal God be my refuge, and underneath be the everlasting arms; Deuteronomy 33:27(KJV) that the spirit thou hast made may not fail before thee, Isaiah 57:16(KJV) nor the soul that thou hast redeemed. Psalm 71:23(KJV)

Let me be strengthened with all might, according to thy glorious power, unto all patience and long-suffering with joyfulness. Colossians 1:11(KJV)

Let thy statutes be my songs in the house of my pilgrimage; Psalm 119:54(KJV) and let thy testimonies, which I have taken as a heritage for ever, be always the rejoicing of my heart. Psalm 119:111(KJV)

When I am troubled on every side, yet let me not be distressed; and when I am perplexed, let me not be in despair; 2 Corinthians 4:8(KJV) but as sorrowful, and yet always rejoicing; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things. 2 Corinthians 6:10(KJV)

Pray for Grace to Make you Wiser and Better Every Day

Petition 3.34 | KJV

I must pray for grace to make me wiser and better every day than another.

Lord, give me to increase with the increases of God; Colossians 2:19(KJV) to grow in grace and in the knowledge of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; 2 Peter 3:18(KJV) to hold on my way; and, having clean hands, to grow stronger and stronger. Job 17:9(KJV)

Let my path be as the shining light, which shines more and more unto the perfect day. Proverbs 4:18(KJV)

I have not yet attained, nor am I already perfect; Lord, grant that therefore, forgetting the things that are behind, I may reach forth to those things that are before, for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:12-14(KJV)

Be thou as the dew unto me, that I may grow as the lily and cast forth my roots as Lebanon; that my branches may spread and my beauty be as the olive-tree. Hosea 14:5-6(KJV) And let the Sun of righteousness arise upon me with healing under his wings, that I may go forth and grow up as a calf of the stall. Malachi 4:2(KJV)

Pray for Grace to Assist you that you may be Universally Conscientious

Petition 3.33 | KJV

That I may be universally conscientious.

O that I may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. Colossians 4:12(KJV)

O that my ways were directed to keep thy commandments! And then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect to them all. Psalm 119:5-6(KJV)

Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes, and I shall keep it unto the end. Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart. Make me to go in the path of thy commandments, for therein do I delight. Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness. Psalm 119:33-36(KJV)

Grant me, I pray thee, according to the riches of thy glory, that I may be strengthened with all might by the Spirit in the inward man: That Christ may dwell in my heart by faith, and that being rooted and grounded in love, I may be able to comprehend with all saints, what is the breadth and length and depth and height, and may know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, and be filled with a divine fulness, Ephesians 3:16-20(KJV) and may partake of a divine nature. 2 Peter 1:4(KJV)

And let the love of Christ constrain me to live not to myself, but to him that died for me and rose again. 2 Corinthians 5:14-15(KJV)

That I may be pleasant and cheerful in my duty.

Lord, enable me to rejoice evermore, 1 Thessalonians 5:16(KJV) to rejoice in the Lord always, because he hath again said unto me, Rejoice; Philippians 4:4(KJV) that I may go on my way rejoicing, may eat my bread with joy, and drink my wine with a merry heart, as I shall have reason to do if God now accepteth my works. Ecclesiastes 9:7(KJV)

Pray for Grace to Assist you that you may be Courageous in your Duty

Petition 3.30 | KJV

That I may be resolute and courageous in my duty, as one that knows that though I may be a loser for Christ, I shall not be a loser by him in the end.

Lord, teach me to endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ, 2 Timothy 2:3(KJV) that I may not fear the reproach of men or their revilings, Isaiah 51:7(KJV) nor be ashamed of Christ or of his words, Mark 8:38(KJV) knowing whom I have believed, even one who is able to keep what I have committed to him against that day. 2 Timothy 1:12(KJV)

Though bonds and afflictions should abide me, Lord, grant that none of these things may move me, and that I may not count life itself dear to me, so I may finish my course with joy. Acts 20:23-24(KJV)

Enable me in all things to approve myself to God; 2 Corinthians 6:4(KJV) and then to pass by honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report, clad with the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, 2 Corinthians 6:7-8(KJV) as one that accounts it a very small thing to be judged of man’s judgment, for he that judgeth me is the Lord. 1 Corinthians 4:3-4(KJV)

Pray for Grace to Assist you that you may be Diligent in your Duty

Petition 3.29 | KJV

That I may be active and diligent in my duty.

Lord, quicken me to work the works of him that sent me, while it is day, because the night comes, wherein no man can work; John 9:4(KJV) and what good my hands find to do, to do it with all my might, because there is no work or knowledge in the grave whither I am going. Ecclesiastes 9:10(KJV)

Lord, grant that I may never be slothful in any good business, but fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; Romans 12:11(KJV) steadfast and unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as I know that my labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58(KJV)

Lord, make me zealously affected in every good work; Galatians 4:18(KJV) and what I do, enable me to do it heartily, as unto the Lord and not unto men. Colossians 3:23(KJV)

Lord, enable me to do the work of every day in its day, according as the duty of the day requires, Ezra 3:4(KJV) redeeming the time, because the days are evil; Ephesians 5:16(KJV) that when my Lord comes, he may find me so doing. Luke 12:43(KJV)
