Profess your Believing Hope and Confidence in God

Adoration 1.17 | KJV

I must likewise profess my believing hope and confidence in God and his all-sufficiency, in his power, providence, and promise.

In thee, O God, do I put my trust, let me never be ashamed; Psalm 31:1(KJV) yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed. Psalm 25:3(KJV)

Truly my soul waits upon God; from him cometh my salvation: he only is my Rock and my salvation! Psalm 62:1-2(KJV) In him is my glory, my strength, and my refuge, and from him is my expectation. Psalm 62:5-7(KJV)

When refuge fails me, and none cares for my soul, I cry unto thee, O Lord, Thou art my refuge, and my portion in the land of the living. Psalm 142:4-5(KJV)

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but I will remember the name of the Lord my God. Psalm 20:7(KJV) I will trust in thy mercy, O God, for ever and ever, and will wait on thy name, for it is good before thy saints. Psalm 52:8-9(KJV)

I have hoped in thy word; Psalm 119:81(KJV) O remember thy word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope. Psalm 119:49(KJV)

Humbly Profess the Desire of your Heart for God

Adoration 1.16 | KJV

I must humbly profess the desire of my heart towards God, as my felicity and portion and fountain of life and all good to me.

Whom have I in heaven but thee? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides thee or in comparison of thee. When my flesh and my heart fail, be thou the strength of my heart and my portion for ever, Psalm 73:25-26(KJV) the portion of my inheritance in the other world and of my cup in this; and then I will say that the lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places, and that I have a goodly heritage. Psalm 16:5-6(KJV)

The desire of my soul is to thy name and to the remembrance of thee; with my soul have I desired thee in the night, and with my spirit within me will I seek thee early. Isaiah 26:8-9(KJV)

As the hart panteth after the water brook, so panteth my soul after thee, O God; my soul thirsteth for God, for the living God, Psalm 42:1-2(KJV) who will command his loving-kindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer to the God of my life. Psalm 42:8(KJV)

O that I may come hungering and thirsting after righteousness, Matthew 5:6(KJV) for thou fillest the hungry with good things, but the rich thou sendest empty away. Luke 1:53(KJV)

O that my soul may thirst for thee, and my flesh long for thee in a dry and thirsty land where no water is; that I may see thy power and thy glory, as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. Thy loving-kindness is better than life; Psalm 63:1-3(KJV) my soul shall be satisfied with that as with marrow and fatness, and then my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips. Psalm 63:5(KJV)

Express your Unworthiness to Draw Near to God

Adoration 1.15 | KJV

I must express the sense I have of my own meanness and unworthiness to draw near to God and speak to him.

But will God in very deed dwell with man upon the earth? That God whom the heaven of heavens cannot contain, 2 Chronicles 6:18(KJV) with man that is a worm, and the son of man that is a worm? Job 25:6(KJV)

Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my father’s house, that thou hast brought me hitherto to present myself before the Lord? 2 Samuel 7:18(KJV) That I have through Christ an access by one Spirit unto the Father? Ephesians 2:18(KJV) And yet, as if this had been a small thing in thy sight, thou hast spoken concerning thy servant for a great while to come, and is this the manner of men, O Lord God? 2 Samuel 7:19(KJV)

What is man that thou art thus mindful of him, and the son of man that thou visitest him, Psalm 8:4(KJV) and dost thus magnify him?

O let not the Lord be angry, Genesis 18:30(KJV) if I that am but dust and ashes take upon myself to speak unto the Lord of glory. Genesis 18:27(KJV)

I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies and of all the truth, which thou hast showed unto thy servant; Genesis 32:10(KJV) nor is it meet to take the children’s bread and cast it to such as I am; yet the dogs eat of the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table; Matthew 15:26-27(KJV) and thou art rich in mercy to all that call upon thee. Romans 10:12(KJV)

Acknowledge the Privilege of Drawing Near to God in Prayer

Adoration 1.14 | KJV

I must acknowledge it an unspeakable favour and an inestimable privilege that I am not only admitted, but invited and encouraged, to draw nigh to God in prayer.

Thou hast commanded me to pray always, with all prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, and to watch thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Ephesians 6:18(KJV) to continue in prayer, and in every thing, with prayer and supplication, to make my requests known to God. Philippians 4:6(KJV)

Thou hast directed me to ask and seek and knock, and hast promised that I shall receive, I shall find, and it shall be opened to me. Matthew 7:7(KJV)

Thou hast appointed to me a great High Priest, in whose name I may come boldly to the throne of grace, that I may find mercy and grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16(KJV)

Thou hast assured me, that while the sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, the prayer of the upright is his delight; Proverbs 15:8(KJV) and that he that offers praise glorifies thee; Psalm 50:23(KJV) and the sacrifice of thanksgiving shall please the Lord better than that of an ox or bullock that has horns and hoofs. Psalm 69:30-31(KJV)

Thou art he that hearest prayer, and therefore unto thee shall all flesh come. Psalm 65:2(KJV)

Thou sayest, Seek ye my face, and my heart answers, Thy face, Lord, will I seek. Psalm 27:8(KJV) For, should not a person seek unto his God? Isaiah 8:19(KJV) Whither shall I go but to thee? Thou hast the words of eternal life. John 6:68(KJV)

Own your Relation to God

Adoration 1.13 | KJV

I must avouch this God to be my God and own my relation to him, his dominion over me, and propriety in me.

My soul has said unto the Lord, Thou art my God, though my goodness extendeth not unto thee; Psalm 16:2(KJV) neither if I am righteous art thou the better. Job 35:7(KJV)

Thou art my King, O God: Psalm 44:4(KJV) Other lords besides thee have had dominion over me, but from henceforth by thee only will I make mention of thy name. Isaiah 26:13(KJV)

I avouch the Lord this day to be my God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes and commandments and his judgments, and to hearken to his voice and give myself unto him, to be of his peculiar people, as he hath promised, that I may be of a holy people unto the Lord my God; Deuteronomy 26:17-19(KJV) and may be unto him for a name and for a praise and for a glory. Jeremiah 13:11(KJV)

O Lord, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant born in thy house, and thou hast loosed my bonds: Psalm 116:16(KJV) I am bought with a price, and therefore I am not my own, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20(KJV) but yield myself unto the Lord, 2 Chronicles 30:8(KJV) and join myself unto him in an everlasting covenant that shall never be forgotten. Jeremiah 50:5(KJV)

I am thine, save me, for I seek thy precepts; Psalm 119:94(KJV) it is thine own, Lord, that I give thee, and that which cometh of thine hand. 1 Chronicles 29:16(KJV)

Acknowledge your Dependence on God and your Obligations to Him

Adoration 1.12 | KJV

I must acknowledge my dependence upon God and my obligations to him as my Creator, Preserver, and Benefactor.

Thou, O God, madest me, and not I myself, and therefore I am not my own but thine: 1 Corinthians 6:19(KJV) I am of thy people and of the sheep of thy pasture; Psalm 100:3(KJV) let me therefore worship and fall down and kneel before the Lord my Maker. Psalm 95:6(KJV)

Thou, Lord, art the former of my body, and it is fearfully and wonderfully made and curiously wrought. Thine eyes did see my substance yet being unperfect, and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. Psalm 139:14-16(KJV)

Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh; thou hast fenced me with bones and sinews; thou hast granted me life and favour, and thy visitation preserves my spirit. Job 10:11-12(KJV)

Thou art the Father of my spirit, Hebrews 12:9(KJV) for thou formedst the spirit of man within him, Zechariah 12:1(KJV) and madest me this soul. Jeremiah 38:16(KJV) The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life. Job 33:4(KJV) Thou puttest wisdom in the inward part and giveth understanding to the heart. Job 38:36(KJV)

Thou art God my Maker, and teachest me more than the beasts of the earth, and makest me wiser than the fowls of heaven. Job 35:10-11(KJV)

I am the clay, and thou my Potter; I am the work of thy hand. Isaiah 64:8(KJV)

Thou art he that tookest me out of the womb and keepest me in safety when I was at my mother’s breasts; I have been cast upon thee from the womb and held up by thee. Psalm 22:9-10(KJV) Thou art my God from my mother’s bowels, and therefore my praise shall be continually of thee. Psalm 71:6(KJV)

In thee, O God, I live and move and have my being, for I am thine offspring. Acts 17:28(KJV)

In thy hand my breath is, and thine are all my ways; Daniel 5:23(KJV) for the way of man is not in himself, neither is it in man that walketh to direct his steps, Jeremiah 10:23(KJV) but my times are in thy hand. Psalm 31:15(KJV)

Thou art the God that hath fed me all my life long unto this day and redeemed me from all evil. Genesis 48:15-16(KJV)

It is of thy mercies that I am not consumed, even because thy compassions fail not: they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23(KJV)

If thou take away my breath, I die and return to the dust out of which I was taken. Psalm 104:29(KJV)

Who is he that saith and it cometh to pass, if thou commandest it not? Out of thy mouth, O Most High, both evil and good proceed. Lamentations 3:37-38(KJV)

Give Honor to the Triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

Adoration 1.11 | KJV

We must give honor to the three persons in the Godhead distinctly, to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, that great and sacred Name into which we were baptized and in which we assemble for religious worship, in communion with the universal church.

I pay my homage to three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost; for these three are one. 1 John 5:7(KJV)

I adore thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, Matthew 11:25(KJV) and the eternal Word, who was in the beginning with God and was God, by whom all things were made, and without whom was not any thing made that was made; John 1:1-3(KJV) and who in the fulness of time, Galatians 4:4(KJV) was made flesh and dwelt among us and showed his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14(KJV)

And since it is the will of God that all men should honour the Son, as they honour the Father, John 5:23(KJV) I adore him as the brightness of his Father’s glory and the express image of his person; Hebrews 1:3(KJV) herein joining with the angels of God, who were all bidden to worship him. Hebrews 1:6(KJV)

I pay homage to the exalted Redeemer, who is the faithful witness, the first-begotten from the dead, and the Prince of the kings of the earth, Revelation 1:5(KJV) confessing that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:11(KJV)

I also worship the Holy Ghost, the Comforter, whom the Son hath sent from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceedeth from the Father, John 15:26(KJV) and who is sent to teach me all things and to bring all things to my remembrance; John 14:26(KJV) who indited the Scriptures, holy men of God writing them as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2 Peter 1:21(KJV)

Give Glory to God as the Creator of the World

Adoration 1.10 | KJV

I must give glory to him as the Creator of the world and the great Protector, Benefactor, and Ruler of the whole creation.

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive blessing and honour and glory and power; for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure and for thy praise they are and were created. Revelation 4:11(KJV)

I worship him that made the heaven and the earth, the sea and the fountains of waters; Revelation 14:7(KJV) who spake, and it was done; who commanded, and it stood fast; Psalm 33:9(KJV) who said, Let there be light, and there was light; Genesis 1:3(KJV) Let there be a firmament, and he made the firmament; Genesis 1:6-7(KJV) and he made all very good; Genesis 1:31(KJV) and they continue this day according to his ordinance, for all are his servants. Psalm 119:91(KJV)

The day is thine, the night also is thine; thou hast prepared the light and the sun. Thou hast set all the borders of the earth, thou hast made the summer and winter. Psalm 74:16-17(KJV)

Thou upholdest all things by the word of thy power, Hebrews 1:3(KJV) and by thee all things consist. Colossians 1:17(KJV)

The earth is full of thy riches, so is the great and wide sea also. Psalm 104:24-25(KJV) The eyes of all wait upon thee, and thou givest them their meat in due season: Thou openest thy hand and satisfiest the desires of every living thing. Psalm 145:15-16(KJV) Thou preservest man and beast, Psalm 36:6(KJV) and givest food to all flesh. Psalm 135:25(KJV)

Thou, even thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host; the earth and all things that are therein; the seas and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee, Nehemiah 9:6(KJV) whose kingdom ruleth over all. Psalm 103:19(KJV)

A sparrow falls not to the ground without thee. Matthew 10:29(KJV)

Thou madest man at first of the dust of the ground and breathest into him the breath of life, and so he became a living soul. Genesis 2:7(KJV)

And thou hast made of that one blood all nations of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hast determined the times before appointed and the bounds of their habitation. Acts 17:26(KJV)

Thou art the Most High, who ruleth in the kingdom of men, and givest it to whomsoever thou wilt, Daniel 4:25(KJV) for from thee every man’s judgment proceeds. Proverbs 29:26(KJV)

Hallelujah, the Lord God omnipotent reigns, Revelation 19:6(KJV) and doth all according to the counsel of his own will, to the praise of his own glory. Ephesians 1:11-12(KJV)

Praise God for His Heavenly Splendor and Glory

Adoration 1.9 | KJV

I must give to God the praise of that splendour and glory wherein he is pleased to manifest himself in the upper world.

Thou hast prepared thy throne in the heavens, Psalm 103:19(KJV) and it is a throne of glory, high and lifted up; and before thee the seraphims cover their faces. Isaiah 6:1-2(KJV) And it is in compassion to your people that thou holdest back the face of that throne, and spreadest a cloud upon it. Job 26:9(KJV)

Thou makest thine angels spirits, and thy ministers a flame of fire. Psalm 104:4(KJV) Thousand thousands of them minister unto thee, and ten thousand times ten thousand stand before thee, to do thy pleasure. Revelation 5:11(KJV) They excel in strength and hearken to the voice of thy word. Psalm 103:20-21(KJV) And I am come by faith and hope and holy love into a spiritual communion with that innumerable company of angels and the spirits of just men made perfect, even to the general assembly and church of the first-born, in the heavenly Jerusalem. Hebrews 12:22-23(KJV)

Acknowledge God’s Unchanging Truth and Greatness

Adoration 1.8 | KJV

That his truth is invariable, and the treasures of his goodness inexhaustible.

Thou art good, and thy mercy endureth for ever. Psalm 136:1(KJV)

Thy loving-kindness is great toward me, Psalm 117:2(KJV) and thy truth endureth to all generations. Psalm 100:5(KJV)

Thou hast proclaimed thy name: The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, slow to anger, abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin. Exodus 34:6-7(KJV) And this name of thine is my strong tower. Proverbs 18:10(KJV)

Thou art good and doest good, Psalm 119:68(KJV) good to all; and thy tender mercy is over all thy works. Psalm 145:9(KJV) But truly God is in a special manner good to Israel, even to them that are of a clean heart. Psalm 73:1(KJV)

O that thou wouldest cause thy goodness to pass before me, Exodus 33:19(KJV) that I may taste and see that the Lord is good, Psalm 34:8(KJV) and his loving-kindness may be always before my eyes. Psalm 26:3(KJV)

Lastly, that when I have said all I can of the glorious perfections of the Divine nature, I fall infinitely short of the merit of the subject.

Lo, these are but parts of his ways, and how little a portion is heard of God! But the thunder of his power who can understand? Job 26:14(KJV)

Touching the Almighty, I cannot find him out; he is excellent in power and in judgment, and in plenty of justice; Job 37:23(KJV) he is exalted far above all blessing and praise. Nehemiah 9:5(KJV)
