Beg for the Spirit’s Assistance in Prayer and Aim for God’s Glory

Adoration 1.19 | NASB

I must beg for the powerful assistance and influence of the blessed Spirit of grace in my prayers.

Lord, I do not know how to pray as I should, but let Your Spirit help my weaknesses and make intercession for me. Romans 8:26(NASB)

O pour out on me the Spirit of grace and of supplication, Zechariah 12:10(NASB) the Spirit of adoption teaching me to cry, “Abba, Father”; Romans 8:15(NASB) that I may find in my heart to pray this prayer: O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me; let them bring me to Your holy hill and to Your dwelling places, to God my exceeding joy. Psalm 43:3-4(NASB)

O Lord, open my lips, that my mouth may declare Your praise. Psalm 51:15(NASB)

I must make the glory of God my highest end in all my prayers.

This is what You, O LORD, have said: that by those who come near You, You will be treated as holy, and before all the people You will be honored; Leviticus 10:3(NASB) I therefore worship before You, O Lord, that I may glorify Your name; Psalm 86:9(NASB) and therefore I call on You, that You may rescue me, and I may honor You. Psalm 50:15(NASB)

For from You and through You and to You are all things. Romans 11:36(NASB)

Entreat God’s Favorable Acceptance

Adoration 1.18 | NASB

I must entreat God’s favorable acceptance of me and my poor performances.

Many are asking, “Who can show us any good?” But this we say, “Let the light of your face shine upon us, O LORD,” and that shall fill our hearts with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound. Psalm 4:6-7(NIV)

We have sought your face with all our heart, Psalm 119:58(NIV) for in this we labor, that whether at home in the body or away from it, we may please the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:9(NIV)

O LORD, hear our prayer, listen to our cry for mercy; in your faithfulness come to our relief, Psalm 143:1(NIV) and be near us whenever we pray to you; Deuteronomy 4:7(NIV) for you have not said to Jacob’s descendants, “Seek me in vain.” Isaiah 45:19(NIV)

You who hear the young ravens when they call, Psalm 147:9(NIV) do not turn a deaf ear to us, for if you remain silent, we will be like those who have gone down to the pit. Psalm 28:1(NIV)

May our prayer be set before you like incense, and the lifting up of our hands be acceptable in your sight like the evening sacrifice. Psalm 141:2(NIV)

Profess your Believing Hope and Confidence in God

Adoration 1.17 | NASB

I must likewise profess my believing hope and confidence in God and His all-sufficiency, in His power, providence, and promise.

In You, O God, I have taken refuge; let me never be ashamed; Psalm 31:1(NASB) indeed, none of those who wait for You will be ashamed. Psalm 25:3(NASB)

My soul waits in silence for God only; from Him is my salvation: Psalm 62:1-2(NASB) He only is my rock and my salvation! On Him my salvation and my glory rest; the rock of my strength, my refuge is in God, and my hope is from Him. Psalm 62:5-7(NASB)

When there is no escape for me, and no one cares for my soul, I cry out to You, O LORD, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” Psalm 142:4-5(NASB)

Some boast in chariots and some in horses, but I will boast in the name of the LORD, my God. Psalm 20:7(NASB) I will trust in Your lovingkindness, O God, forever and ever, and will wait on Your name, for it is good, in the presence of Your godly ones. Psalm 52:8-9(NASB)

I have waited for Your word; Psalm 119:81(NASB) O remember Your word to Your servant, in which You have made me hope. Psalm 119:49(NASB)

Humbly Profess the Desire of your Heart for God

Adoration 1.16 | NASB

I must humbly profess the desire of my heart towards God, as my felicity and portion and fountain of life and all good to me.

Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth or in comparison to You. When my flesh and my heart fail, be the strength of my heart and my portion forever, Psalm 73:25-26(NASB) the portion of my inheritance in the other world and of my cup in this; and then I will say that the lines have fallen to me in pleasant places, and that my heritage is beautiful to me. Psalm 16:5-6(NASB)

Your name, even Your memory, is the desire of my soul; at night my soul longs for You, indeed, my spirit within me seeks You diligently. Isaiah 26:8-9(NASB)

As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for You, O God; my soul thirsts for God, for the living God, Psalm 42:1-2(NASB) who will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, and whose song will be with me in the night, my prayer to the God of my life. Psalm 42:8(NASB)

O that I may come hungering and thirsting after righteousness, Matthew 5:6(NASB) for You fill the hungry with good things, but send away the rich empty-handed. Luke 1:53(NASB)

O that my soul may thirst for You, and my flesh yearn for You, in a dry and weary land where there is no water; that I may see You in the sanctuary, may see Your power and Your glory. Your lovingkindness is better than life; Psalm 63:1-3(NASB) my soul will be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and then my mouth will offer praises with joyful lips. Psalm 63:5(NASB)

Express your Unworthiness to Draw Near to God

Adoration 1.15 | NASB

I must express the sense I have of my own meanness and unworthiness to draw near to God and speak to Him.

But will God indeed dwell with mankind on the earth? That God whom heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain, 2 Chronicles 6:18(NASB) with man, that maggot, and the son of man, that worm? Job 25:6(NASB)

Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my father’s house, that You have brought me this far to present myself before the Lord? 2 Samuel 7:18(NASB) That I have through Christ access in one Spirit to the Father? Ephesians 2:18(NASB) And yet, as if this had been insignificant in Your eyes, You have spoken also of the house of Your servant concerning the distant future. 2 Samuel 7:19(NASB)

What is man that You take thought of him, and the son of man that You care for him, Psalm 8:4(NASB) and magnify him?

Oh may the Lord not be angry, Genesis 18:30(NASB) if I who am but dust and ashes venture to speak to the Lord of glory. Genesis 18:27(NASB)

I am unworthy of all the lovingkindness and of all the faithfulness which You have shown to Your servant; Genesis 32:10(NASB) nor is it good to take the children’s bread and throw it to such as I am; yet the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table; Matthew 15:26-27(NASB) and You are abounding in riches for all who call upon You. Romans 10:12(NASB)

Acknowledge the Privilege of Drawing Near to God in Prayer

Adoration 1.14 | NASB

I must acknowledge it an unspeakable favor and an inestimable privilege that I am not only admitted, but invited and encouraged, to draw near to God in prayer.

You have commanded me to pray at all times, with all prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, and to be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all saints; Ephesians 6:18(NASB) to continue in prayer, and in everything, by prayer and supplication, to make my requests known to God. Philippians 4:6(NASB)

You have directed me to ask and seek and knock, and have promised that I will receive, I will find, and it will be opened to me. Matthew 7:7(NASB)

You have appointed for me a great High Priest, in whose name I may draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that I may find mercy and grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16(NASB)

You have assured me that while the sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, the prayer of the upright is His delight; Proverbs 15:8(NASB) and that he who offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors You; Psalm 50:23(NASB) and the sacrifice of thanksgiving will please the LORD better than that of an ox or a young bull with horns and hoofs. Psalm 69:30-31(NASB)

You are He who hears prayer, and therefore to You all men come. Psalm 65:2(NASB)

You say, “Seek my face”; and my heart answers, “Your face, O LORD, I shall seek.” Psalm 27:8(NASB) For, should not a person consult their God? Isaiah 8:19(NASB) Where shall I go but to You? You have words of eternal life. John 6:68(NASB)

Own your Relation to God

Adoration 1.13 | NASB

I must declare this God to be my God and his own my relation to Him, His dominion over me, and propriety in me.

My soul has said to the LORD, “You are my God; I have no good besides You; Psalm 16:2(NASB) neither if I am righteous are You the better.” Job 35:7(NASB)

You are my King, O God: Psalm 44:4(NASB) Other masters besides You have ruled me; but through You alone I confess Your name. Isaiah 26:13(NASB)

I declare today the LORD to be my God, and endeavor by grace to walk in His ways and keep His statutes, His commandments, and His ordinances, and listen to His voice and give myself to Him, to be of His people, who are a treasured possession, as He has promised, that I might be among a consecrated people to the LORD my God; Deuteronomy 26:17-19(NASB) and may be to Him for renown, for praise, and for glory. Jeremiah 13:11(NASB)

O LORD, surely I am Your servant; I am Your servant born in Your house, and You have loosed my bonds; Psalm 116:16(NASB) I have been bought with a price, and therefore I am not my own; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20(NASB) and so I yield to the LORD, 2 Chronicles 30:8(NASB) and join myself to Him in an everlasting covenant that will never be forgotten. Jeremiah 50:5(NASB)

I am Yours, save me; for I seek Your precepts; Psalm 119:94(NASB) it is Yours, Lord, that I give You, and that which is from Your hand. 1 Chronicles 29:16(NASB)

Acknowledge your Dependence on God and your Obligations to Him

Adoration 1.12 | NASB

I must acknowledge my dependence upon God and my obligations to Him as my Creator, Preserver, and Benefactor.

You, O God, made me, and not I myself, and therefore I am not my own but Yours: 1 Corinthians 6:19(NASB) I am of Your people and of the sheep of Your pasture; Psalm 100:3(NASB) let me therefore worship and bow down and kneel before the LORD my Maker. Psalm 95:6(NASB)

You, Lord, are the former of my body, and it is fearfully and wonderfully made and skillfully wrought. Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them. Psalm 139:14-16(NASB)

You have clothed me with skin and flesh; You have knit me together with bones and sinews; You have granted me life and lovingkindness, and Your care preserves my spirit. Job 10:11-12(NASB)

You are the Father of my spirit, Hebrews 12:9(NASB) for You formed the spirit of man within him, Zechariah 12:1(NASB) and made this life for me. Jeremiah 38:16(NASB) The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. Job 33:4(NASB) You put wisdom in the innermost being and give understanding to the mind. Job 38:36(NASB)

You are God my Maker, who teaches me more than the beasts of the earth and makes me wiser than the birds of the heavens. Job 35:10-11(NASB)

I am the clay, and You my Potter; I am the work of Your hand. Isaiah 64:8(NASB)

You are He who brought me forth from the womb and kept me in safety when upon my mother’s breasts; I have been cast upon You from birth and sustained by You. Psalm 22:9-10(NASB) You have been my God from my mother’s womb, and therefore my praise is continually of You. Psalm 71:6(NASB)

In You, O God, I live and move and exist, for I am Your child. Acts 17:28(NASB)

In Your hand are my life-breath and all my ways; Daniel 5:23(NASB) for a man’s way is not in himself, nor is it in a man who walks to direct his steps, Jeremiah 10:23(NASB) but my times are in Your hand. Psalm 31:15(NASB)

You are the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day and redeemed me from all evil. Genesis 48:15-16(NASB)

It is of Your mercies that I am not consumed, even because Your compassions never fail: they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23(NASB)

If You take away my spirit, I expire and return to the dust out of which I was taken. Psalm 104:29(NASB)

Who is there who speaks and it comes to pass, unless You have commanded it? From Your mouth, O Most High, both good and ill go forth. Lamentations 3:37-38(NASB)

Give Honor to the Triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

Adoration 1.11 | NASB

We must give honor to the three persons in the Godhead distinctly, to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, that great and sacred Name into which we were baptized and in which we assemble for religious worship, in communion with the universal church.

I pay homage to three that testify in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; for these three are one. 1 John 5:7(KJV)

I adore You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, Matthew 11:25(NASB) and the eternal Word, who was in the beginning with God and was God, through whom all things came into being, and apart from whom nothing came into being that has come into being; John 1:1-3(NASB) and who in the fullness of time, Galatians 4:4(NASB) became flesh and dwelt among us and showed His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14(NASB)

And since it is the will of God that all should honor the Son even as they honor the Father, John 5:23(NASB) I adore Him as the radiance of His Father’s glory and the exact representation of His nature; Hebrews 1:3(NASB) herein joining with the angels of God, who were all bidden to worship him. Hebrews 1:6(NASB)

I pay homage to the exalted Redeemer, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth, Revelation 1:5(NASB) confessing that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:11(NASB)

I also worship the Holy Spirit, the Helper, whom the Son has sent from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, John 15:26(NASB) and who is sent to teach me all things and to bring to my remembrance all things; John 14:26(NASB) who indited the Scriptures, holy men of God writing them as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:21(NASB)

Give Glory to God as the Creator of the World

Adoration 1.10 | NASB

I must give glory to Him as the Creator of the world and the great Protector, Benefactor, and Ruler of the whole creation.

Worthy are You, my Lord and my God, to receive blessing and honor and glory and power; for You have created all things, and because of Your will and for Your praise they exist and have been created. Revelation 4:11(NASB)

I worship Him who made the heaven and the earth and sea and springs of waters; Revelation 14:7(NASB) who spoke, and it was done; who commanded, and it stood fast; Psalm 33:9(NASB) who said, “Let there be light,” and there was light; Genesis 1:3(NASB) “Let there be a firmament,” and he made the firmament; Genesis 1:6-7(NASB) and he made all very good; Genesis 1:31(NASB) and they stand this day according to his ordinances, for all things are his servants. Psalm 119:91(NASB)

Yours is the day, Yours also is the night; You have prepared the light and the sun. You have established all the boundaries of the earth; You have made summer and winter. Psalm 74:16-17(NASB)

You uphold all things by the word of Your power, Hebrews 1:3(NASB) and in You all things hold together. Colossians 1:17(NASB)

The earth is full of Your possessions, as is the great and broad sea. Psalm 104:24-25(NASB) The eyes of all look to You, and You give them their food in due time: You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing. Psalm 145:15-16(NASB) You preserve man and beast, Psalm 36:6(NASB) and give food to all flesh. Psalm 136:25(NASB)

You alone are the LORD; You have made the heavens, the heaven of heavens with all their host; the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; You give life to all of them; and the heavenly host bows down before You, Nehemiah 9:6(NASB) whose sovereignty rules over all. Psalm 103:19(NASB)

A sparrow does not fall to the ground apart from You. Matthew 10:29(NASB)

You made man at first of dust from the ground and breathed into him the breath of life, and so he became a living being. Genesis 2:7(NASB)

And You have made from that one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation. Acts 17:26(NASB)

You are the Most High, who rules over the realm of mankind and bestows it on whomever You wish; Daniel 4:25(NASB) for from You comes justice for man. Proverbs 29:26(NASB)

Hallelujah! The Lord my God, the Almighty, reigns! Revelation 19:6(NASB) He does all according to the counsel of His will, to the praise of His own glory. Ephesians 1:11-12(NASB)
