Reverently Adore God, Part 2

Adoration 1.3 | NIV

I must acknowledge his Being to be unquestionable and past dispute.

The heavens declare your glory, O God, and the skies proclaim the work of your hands, Psalm 19:1(NIV) and your eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen and understood from what has been made. Romans 1:19-20(NIV) So they are fools without excuse who say, “There is no God”; Psalm 14:1(NIV) for surely the righteous are rewarded, surely there is a God who judges the earth, Psalm 58:11(NIV) and heaven too.

I therefore come to you believing that you exist and that you powerfully and bountifully reward those who earnestly seek you. Hebrews 11:6(NIV)

Yet I must understand and own his nature to be incomprehensible.

I cannot fathom the mysteries of God; I cannot probe the limits of the Almighty. Job 11:7(NIV)

Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. Psalm 145:3(NIV)

Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the LORD or fully declare his praise? Psalm 106:2(NIV)

And his perfections to be matchless and without compare.

Who is a God like you – majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders? Exodus 15:11(NIV)

Who in the skies above can compare with the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings? Psalm 89:6(NIV) O LORD God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds you. Psalm 89:8(NIV)

Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. Psalm 86:8(NIV) For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God. Psalm 86:10(NIV)

No creature has an arm like God’s, or can thunder with a voice like his. Job 40:9(NIV)

And that he is infinitely above me and all other beings.

You are God and not man; you do not have eyes of flesh, nor do you see as a mortal sees. Your days are not like those of a mortal, or your years like those of a man. Job 10:4-5(NIV)

As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are your thoughts higher than my thoughts and your ways than my ways. Isaiah 55:9(NIV)

All nations before you are like a drop in a bucket, or as dust on the scales; you weigh the islands as though they were fine dust; Isaiah 40:15(NIV) they are as nothing; they are regarded by you as worthless and less than nothing. Isaiah 40:17(NIV)

Adoration 1.3 | KJV

I must acknowledge his Being to be unquestionable and past dispute.

The heavens declare thy glory, O God, and the firmament sheweth thy handy-work, Psalm 19:1(KJV) and by the things that are made is clearly seen and understood thine eternal power and Godhead. Romans 1:19-20(KJV) So that they are fools without excuse who say, There is no God; Psalm 14:1(KJV) for verily there is a reward for the righteous, verily there is a God that judgeth in the earth, Psalm 58:11(KJV) and in heaven too.

I therefore come to thee believing that thou art and that thou art the powerful and bountiful rewarder of them that diligently seek thee. Hebrews 11:6(KJV)

Yet I must understand and own his nature to be incomprehensible.

I cannot by searching find out God, I cannot find out the Almighty unto perfection. Job 11:7(KJV)

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. Psalm 145:3(KJV)

Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord? Who can shew forth all his praise? Psalm 106:2(KJV)

And his perfections to be matchless and without compare.

Who is a God like unto thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? Exodus 15:11(KJV)

Who in the heaven can be compared unto the Lord? Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the Lord? Psalm 89:6(KJV) O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong Lord like unto thee, or to thy faithfulness round about thee? Psalm 89:8(KJV)

Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord, neither are there any works like unto thy works. Psalm 86:8(KJV) For thou art great and doest wondrous things; thou art God alone. Psalm 86:10(KJV)

There is not any creature that has an arm like God, or can thunder with a voice like him. Job 40:9(KJV)

And that he is infinitely above me and all other beings.

Thou art God and not man; hast not eyes of flesh, nor seest thou as man seeth. Thy days are not as the days of man, nor thy years as man’s days. Job 10:4-5(KJV)

As heaven is high above the earth, so are thy thoughts above my thoughts, and thy ways above my ways. Isaiah 55:9(KJV)

All nations before thee are as a drop of the bucket, or the small dust of the balance; and thou takest up the isles as a very little thing; Isaiah 40:15(KJV) they are as nothing, and are counted to thee as less than nothing and vanity. Isaiah 40:17(KJV)

Reverently Adore God, Part 1

Adoration 1.2 | ESV

I must reverently adore God, as a Being transcendently bright and blessed, self-existent and self-sufficient, an infinite and eternal Spirit who has all perfections in himself, and give him the glory of his titles and attributes.

O LORD our God, you are very great! You are clothed with splendor and majesty, you cover yourself with light as with a garment; Psalm 104:1-2(ESV) and yet to us you make darkness your canopy, Psalm 18:11(ESV) for we cannot draw up our case because of darkness. Job 37:19(ESV)

This is the message which we have heard of you, and we set our seal to it that it is true: God is light, and in him is no darkness at all; 1 John 1:5(ESV) God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 1 John 4:16(ESV)

You are the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change, and from whom proceeds every good and perfect gift. James 1:17(ESV)

You are the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see.1 Timothy 6:15-16(ESV)

Adoration 1.2 | KJV

I must reverently adore God, as a Being transcendently bright and blessed, self-existent and self-sufficient, an infinite and eternal Spirit that has all perfections in himself, and give him the glory of his titles and attributes.

O Lord my God, thou art very great, thou art clothed with honour and majesty, thou coverest thyself with light as with a garment; Psalm 104:1-2(KJV) and yet as to me makest darkness thy pavilion, Psalm 18:11(KJV) for I cannot order my speech by reason of darkness. Job 37:19(KJV)

This is the message which I have heard of thee, and I set to my seal that it is true: That God is light, and in him is no darkness at all; 1 John 1:5(KJV) and that God is love, and they that dwell in love, dwell in God and God in them. 1 John 4:16(KJV)

Thou art the Father of light, with whom is no variableness or shadow of turning, and from whom proceedeth every good and perfect gift. James 1:17(KJV)

Thou art the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who only hast immortality, dwelling in the light, which no man can approach unto, whom no man hath seen or can see. 1 Timothy 6:15-16(KJV)

Address God with Reverence and Awe

Adoration 1.1 | NASB

Having thus engaged my heart to approach God. Jeremiah 30:21(NASB)

I must solemnly address myself to that infinitely great and glorious Being with whom I have to do, as one who is possessed with a full belief of His presence and a holy awe and reverence of His Majesty, which I may do in such expressions as these:

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come! Revelation 4:8(NASB)

O You alone, whose name is the LORD, are the Most High over all the earth. Psalm 83:18(NASB)

O God, You are my God; I will seek you earnestly; Psalm 63:1(NASB) my God, and I will praise You; my fathers’ God, and I will extol You. Exodus 15:2(NASB)

O You who are the true God, the living God, the one only living and true God, 1 Thessalonians 1:9(NASB) and the everlasting King! Jeremiah 10:10(NASB) With your redeemed people I confess your great name: “The LORD is my God, the LORD is one!” Deuteronomy 6:4(NASB)

And may I thus distinguish myself from the worshipers of false gods.

The idols of the nations are silver and gold, they are vanity and a lie, the work of man’s hands; Psalm 115:4(NASB) those who make them will become like them, everyone who trusts in them. Psalm 115:8(NASB) But the portion of Jacob is not like these, for the Maker of all is He, and Israel is the tribe of His inheritance; the LORD of hosts is His name; Jeremiah 10:16(NASB) God over all, blessed forevermore. Romans 9:5(NASB)

Their rock is not like my Rock, even the enemies themselves judge this; Deuteronomy 32:31(NASB) for he is the Rock of ages, GOD the LORD, who is an everlasting Rock, Isaiah 26:4(NASB) whose name is everlasting and whose remembrance is to all generations, Psalm 135:13(NASB) when the gods who did not make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from under the heavens.
